You are led into a room and are told that you will be answering a series of questions while you are in that room to determine whether or not you may be ready to be thrown into the world of Finalu.
In the blink of an eye, a mannequin with no face -- no hair, nose, eyes, lips, nor ears -- and simple body features with no particular uniqueness whatsoever appears before you. No color is displayed on this boring creation, just dull slate grey. Coming from within the doll, in a wooden, robotic voice, are the words: "make me you." To do so, you describe your physical appearance, features, style, and mannerisms to the mannequin, and, after each statement you told the doll about yourself, it takes on the aspects you described.
- "Um, well, I think I have blonde hair . . . Not really sure, 'cause the true color's hidden under all des layers a dirt. And it's pretty long, and kinda jagged, 'cause I dun get to cut it often and we don't got no real cutters here. And, um, my skin's pretty tanned, but also dirty, and I got some bright blue eyes. My clothes are all dirty and patched and all, and I don't wear no shoes. Some girls says I got sum muscles, but I dunno. Guessin it's from all that farming and all." He looks down at himself as if to be sure that all he said was correct.
A photograph of your parents and various other family pictures appear before you. Which of your parents do you take after, and which aspects? Also, what's your family like?
- "I got me blue eyes from my grandpop, 'cept mine is brighter than his. My ma's got blonde hair, too, so I think that's where I got the blonde from, but me brudders - I got three o' dem, and I'm da third a four - they all have brown hair, from my pop."
Everyone has their set of strengths and weaknesses. What are yours?
- "Um . . . I'm good a farmin', I guess? I might be perty strong and all, but I dunno - never really needed strengths or weaknesses. I'm not good at maths, I can't read, or stuff like dat, the only thing I'm good at is farmin'."
The room's lights begin to flicker. Not everything is rainbows and butterflies, which is why the room shifts to show you your fears. What are they?
- "Failin' the people I luv. I hate ta let dem down, and if they get hurt 'cause I'm too stupid to do nothin' . . . Dat's my fear."
Your fears continue to play out before you. To get it to stop, tell the room your hopes and dreams.
- "Ta inherit ma family's farm. I mean, I know I will, but I juss can't wait for it ta happen, ya know? And I guess I hope ta impress ma pa, but den again, he's basically always impressed wit da work I do." He puffs out his chest proudly.
The room seems satisfied with what you have said and your fears disappear. Instead, a path appears, and you begin to walk. How long do you walk until you give up?
- "I keep on goin' till I can't walk more. My pa always said ta keep on doing somethin' even if yah can't do it, 'pecially if ya not good at it."
As soon as you stop, you can see just ahead the path splits in two. One side, the left, is made of dirt, winding into a forest. The other, on the right, is straight, made of stone, and leads to a gleaming castle. Which way do you go?
- "Da forest. Mebbe there be sum plants or somethin' there, and if peoples want ta get to my family's farm, dey have ta pass through a forest, so my home might be on da other side."
As you take a step to the chosen path, both of them vanish. Instead, you're in a battlefield filled with dead bodies. You're starved, but there is no food to eat. Do you resort to cannibalism?
- He becomes clearly agitated at this question. "Who da you think I am, huh? I dun go eating no peoples! Wha kinda test is dis?"
As soon as you decide, you see motion in the corner of your eye and your hunger is gone. A figure rises up from the dead! Around you, there is a fallen sword, a crossbow with one arrow loaded, and a club. Also, there seems to be a path between the bodies, leading away. What do you do?
- "I grab da cub. I mean, cluh-buh. Swingin' things ain't hard, and dat's basically wha I do with a hoe, anyway. I not a coward, so I dun run."
You hear a sound and turn around to see a book on a table. You walk towards it, and open the cover. Flipping through the pages, you see it is every event that happened in your life. What is your saddest memory, and your happiest?
- "My saddest is when my grandpop ded. Ma whole family was sad, but then the harvest was 'pon us, so the work helped get rid of da sad. And the happiest was when ma baby brudder was born. He was juss so tiny and cute, ya know? And I liked not bein' da youngest."
You close the book and for the first time, notice the title. What is the title of the book?
- "Um, 'My Life?' Dun ask me. I can't even reads."
A glass container appears before you. From the markings along one side, you can see that the liquid inside reaches the halfway point. You are then asked to determine how you see the glass.
- "I see wata. Can I drink it? Farmin' makes me always thirsty, and da wata my family has ain't always da cleanest."
In the blink of an eye, a dragon stands before you, looking angry and ferocious as ever, while behind you is the person you care for the most. Who is it?
- "Prob' my ma, 'cause she is da nicest person in da world. Still, I dun luv her more than I luv da rest of ma family."
Two other things also appear on opposite far ends of the room; a sword and a shield. If you move for one of them, you won't have time to save the person behind you, but you will save yourself. What do you do?
- "I stay where I am, a course! My ma ain't very strong - she does da cooking 'n cleaning 'n all - so she can't pro-tect 'erself."
The scene disappears and instead the mannequin you constructed in like of yourself earlier approaches you and says in the same, robotic voice, "Please wait while the higher-ups determine whether or not you are allowed to enter Finalu."
